Tom Marshall's big try saving hit on Aaron Cruden

Last weekend the Crusaders beat the Hurricanes in a low scoring, yet eventful game. You saw Andrew Hore questioning the ref earlier in the week, now here is a clip of a brilliant tackle from young Tom Marshall.

Incidentally, I'm pleased to tell you that this is Rugbydump's 2000th post. While some news sites or blogs churn out words at an uncanny rate, I'm pretty happy to have 2000 unique posts on the site that has each one featuring a quality video of some kind with it. It hasn't been easy to get to this point, but we're sticking at it and you can expect big things from RD over the next few months, and indeed years. Also, it's fitting that this one is a big hit.

Which brings us nicely back to what happened in this match, as Marshall absolutely smashed Aaron Cruden just meters from the tryline. Along with tackling Dan Carter becoming outlawed, this was one of the most requested incidents of the weekend.

"It was kind of 50-50 but Cruden was pretty renowned for his dummy-and-go, so I just thought I would go for the shot and it worked out all right," said Marshall.

Marshall, who you might not have heard of yet, admits himself that he's hardly one of the big names at the star-studded Crusaders side. He actually said recently that when it comes to the end of the game and the kids run on, everyone clamours around Sonny Bill Williams and king Carter, so it's nice and easy for him as he just chucks a hoodie on and blends in, and is free to walk around without being bothered.

With big tackles like this, he better enjoy the quiet time while he can.

As for the guy he tackled, Aaron Cruden, well he's been included in the All Blacks training squad for the World Cup, along with Colin Slade and Dan Carter, which has quite controversially meant there is no place for Stephen Donald. Coach Graham Henry said this week that Donald simply wasn't good enough at this stage, but will be considered if there's injuries before, or during the tournament.

This weekend the Crusaders host the Sharks, with the winner heading into the Semi Finals, while the Blues play the Waratahs in the first game. Both should be really good to watch, intense, and with lots of physical stuff going on. More like this one hopefully. Great stuff reaching 2000 RD, your videos really light up my studies (and bring my grades down!)

This Marshall looks just like the lost twin brother of czeck tennis player Radek Stephanek. Anyone notice it?

Anyway, really nice dump tackle, I'm overwhelmingly glad the ref didn't call it a penalty, as we saw in the Force v Bulls match against James O'Connor!

Hi guys! I just wanted to let you know that I'm heading to play for Bath next season. As you may know I was cut from the latest All Blacks training camp and I think my chances of playing in the World Cup are very little.

I'm a pretty average player and spoke to some other average players from here -Tommy "I'm fat so what" Waldrom, Shontayne "sometimes I pass the ball right without any impact" Hape, Mouritz "how south african can a man be" Botha and Hendre "I'm getting nowhere in SA" Fourie, and they convinced me to go to England to re-launch my international carrer.

I'll start making some research on my heritage -after all, everyone here in these islands is half british- so I can make the paperwork to play for England quicker. Worst case scenario, I'll be going out at Twickenham instead of the best home grown talent fly halves from England (after all, who are Owen Farrell, George Ford or Toby Flood?) in three years time and feature in the England squad come the 2015 world cup.

So I'll see you there! God I'm so glad the english selectors think everthing from the southern hemisphere is better than what they've got. My complete lack of game management, horrible kick from hand, zero goal kicking and average tackles will look like marvels up here.

sorry to burst your bubble stephen but since you managed to wiggle your way into the all blacks a couple of times you are no longer allowed to play for england. but you are more than welcome to sing "god save the queen" in your own time.

Good hit but Cruden should have given that ball to Jane for the try.... It might have changed the outcome of the game, but I guess we'll never know!

And I think Jane would have agreed with me judging by his body language!

Thank god the ref used his common sense and didn't call this a penalty, like so many soft penalties we've seen in recent seasons.

Awesome tackle. He handled it superbly: if he'd lifted his hips a few more inches it would have been a spear, but as it was it was perfect. Good skills, and a greedy attacker!

Should have passed it! The fact that Marshall admits that Cruden is known for his give and go says it all.
He bodged a couple of tries - one at the other end when he should have passed it.

question for the viewers, why did the penalty go to the crusaders? my impression was that their 9 and 2 went over the ruck and didn´t roll away...there was no way the chief´s player could have rolled away, he was at the bottom of the ruck...shouldn´t the penalty have gone to the chiefs? Unless it was for holding or for Jane playing off his feet, from the side or offside (actually Jane went about it in every wrong way, it seems)

Why are stadiums in NZ always empty? even in the blues waratahs quarter final it was empty. are the tickets too expensive? i don't get it... aren't they all crazy for rugby?

The kiwis never really poached players.
As has been explained countless times, there's only a handful of players who played for the all blacks who were not either born in NZ or raised froma young age there.
People in England who know little or nothing about NZ assume that islanders have to have been born and raised in the Islands, which is as stupd as thinking all white people must have been born and raised in europe.
So a guy like Ma Nonu for instance, was born in Wellington NZ.

And all teams do poach players from other countries, every single team. European teams have been poaching Saffers, Kiwis and Aussies forever.

However, I don't any of the top teams has ever done it quite to the extent that England is now doing.
I mean Waldrom? He's only been in England for a single year. He's the leat English England player ever.
I mean Mortiz Botha, Waldrom, Matt Stevens, Dylan Hartley, Ricky Fluty, Shontayne Hape, Hendrie Fourie, Tuilagi?

A Samoan, a samoan/nzer two Boers, a maori, another kiwi, a saffer all in one world cup squad.

It's a bit excessive.

What people seem to forget is that New Zealand is the biggest island in Polynesia. Samoa also used to be a colony of New Zealand. A lot of people go to New Zealand for a more 'western' lifestyle.

If you think it's just rugby players that go to New Zealand you are sadly mistaken. Just take a trip to South Auckland and you'll see what I mean

Doesn't this seem like a tackle from Leon Macdonald on James O'connor in a Crusaders vs Force match a couple of seasons ago? I saw that tackle just once and never found it again and, as this one, it was impressive!

Anyway, congrats to Tom Marshall on his recent efforts (still prefer Maitlend but...) and to RD for 2000 very entertaining posts.
