The Guinness Premiership is back

The Guinness Premiership kicked off yesterday in England, in much the same manner as the French Top 14 did - with an upset. Champions Wasps were downed by London Irish, and in the other match of the day, Harlequins beat Saracens.

As with the French league, the Guinness Premiership will once again showcase some of the top players in world rugby. The local talent aside, there have been some big names joining clubs around England, adding interest and surely adding to the quality that we saw on display last season.

Worcester will be the new home of Wallaby and former Queensland Reds star Chris Latham. The second highest all time try scorer for Australia will be approaching this next phase of his career looking to show that he's still in his prime with plenty to offer.

Kiwi flyhalf Nick Evans is another star who will be hoping to increase his reputation while at Harlequins.

The foreigners are not the only feature of the Premiership though, as the local talent is in abundance, with experience and youth mixing to create what should be another really enjoyable season for the neutral.

The Experimental Law Variations will be at play this year, and it will be interesting to watch as the teams adjust their play to adapt to and utilise the new laws to their advantage.

The Magners League also gets under way this weekend, so with contributions from dedicated users around the world, we'll once again be doing what we can to bring you the best bits from all the action taking place in Northern Hemisphere rugby this season.

So, with a summer holiday in-between, we're sure this is what a lot of you have been waiting for here on RD. The good news is, the wait is now officially over.

not just because i read worcester are getting latham...but i reckon they will do quite well this year. ive seen them play and they play with passion and apparently have a good academy so it can only be a good future!

Newcastle are down this year I think - Carl Heyman aside, they just don't have a tight five, and in the back line they have very little outside Wilkinson now Tait and Flood have gone.

Stuart Barnes has said he thinks Leicester will finish 7th...the guy is a colossal moron. I don't listen to him anymore after he said Lewis Moody should have played number 8 last season in the 6 nations (never played there before in his life) and that Cipriani if fit should be made captain of England. How Sky can continue to have a bloke with such a limited knowledge of the game as a pundit is beyond me.

I reckon Leicester will win it this year - great coaching set up, some world class players, and a lot of good youngsters as well.

i was at the double header! i was so disappointed in my wasps, they made far too many handling errors, not helped by the wet conditions.

Irish's defence was superb, they smothered wasps at every opportunity.
Apart from a few moments of individual brilliance wasps just didn't turn up. Tagicakabau had Sackey's number on the wing, the forwards dominated, and wasps kicking wasn't on target. But wasps always start badly so im hoping they will come back stronger than ever.

The harlequins saracens game was absolute quality from a neutral perspective! plenty of individual showcases, particularly from ugo monye. Mike Brown didn't do too bad, although i still retain my opinion that he is the worst player ever to don an england shirt as he had such an awful display against new zealand.

ALSO EVERYONE THAT LIVES IN ENGLAND (and i guess the rest of the uk but im not sure about)
every sunday on itv4 at 6:30 in the evening, there is going to be highlights of all the weekends games, starting tonight.

I think it is also repeated on a tuesday, but im not sure about when exactly.

RD i think you should bring this to everyones attention :)
